Heritage Square
Heritage Square is in the centre of historic Cape Town and consists of a large square of Dutch and Georgian houses, some of which are centred around an intimate courtyard. The earliest building was built in 1771, whilst the hotel was constructed in the 1780's. Archival research shows that most of the buildings were used for commercial reasons, such as tobacco and snuff makers, gunsmiths, bakery, wheelwright, rope warehouse, coach makers, several retail outfits, boarding house, chapel and undertaker. Preserved within the warren of alleyways is one of Cape Town's few remaining operational forgers.

Cape Heritage Hotel stands out in its effort to preserve local historical buildings, and sharing the echoes of the past with interested guests. Have a unique experience staying at one of the original 18th century buildings in Cape Town while feel good knowing your stay supports the Cape Town Heritage trust. We can also recommend authentic township tour guides and tour operators, as well as volunteer opportunities for those who want further immersion in the local culture. As true stewards of the destination, the hotel also donates used room furniture to their staff and local community projects - aptly keeping pieces of heritage within the local community, and encouraging others to preserve the distinct history of the area for visitors to enjoy.
